PARENTS CORNER

Scholarship Information

The Young Thunderbirds Football Program will not turn away an athlete away due to inability to pay. We have a scholarship application, which can be found at this link. Please complete the application or email us at youngthunderbirds@yahoo.com for next steps. Scholarships are limited, and applications must be submitted by May 31, 2024. The Operating Committee will review and send out determinations by mid-June.

Committment to Code of Conduct

During the registration process, parents will be asked to review and acknowledge a Commitment to Code of Conduct. A copy can be found HERE. Highlights are as follows:

  • Commitment to attend practice; will impact playing time;  becomes a safety issue.
  • Players need to give 100% effort and listen.
  • Be on time and prepared to practices and games. Show good sportsmanship. Support your teammates.
  • Follow a 24-hour rule to not have discussions when emotions are high.

League Paperwork

The following paperwork will be required for league. In the past, it was uploaded during the registration process. This year, the paperwork will be handed in at league weigh-in night to be announced for a date in late July or early August. Begin getting prepared now!

  • Proof current grade in school (grade card, yearbook photo, letter from school)
  • Copy of birth certificate (photo copy only, not certified)
  • Sports physical completed after Feb 1 of current season year. A copy of the KSHSAA PPE can be found HERE.

Roster/Team Limits

At the start of registration, we only offer one team at each grade level based on the following:
  1. Coaching commitments at the start of the season.
  2. Ensure players can get playing time.
  3. Make sure we have capacity to handle rental equipment requests.
  4. As a program philosophy, we don't want to give families the false sense of a team guarantee by accepting an unlimited number of registrations, accepting registration fees, and later not have the necessary coaches and/or player numbers required to support more than one team; then you miss opportunities to play elsewhere.

Rosters can fill quickly. The 5th/6th generally reaches capacity first. This seems to be the age families/players want to gain tackle experience prior to middle school. Current team rosters cap as follows:

  • 1st Grade - 16 players (play 8v8 games)
  • 2nd-4th Grades - 22 players
  • 5th-6th Grades - 26 players (special teams start)

If a waitlist shows enough interest and IF we can secure coaching, the operating committee will review our ability to offer an additional team.
